Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Essay
Dr. Babasahab Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar is remembered today Dalits as Babasaheb. Everybody is struggling to understand his greatness as a great leader. Dr. Amedkar was born on April 14, 1891, Mahu Shavani, in Rathgiri district to a family of Mahars. He was the son of subedar Ramji Sokpal and smt. Bhimabai. Mahars was the largest untouchable caste in Maharashtra at that time.
With the help of Sayajirao Gaekwad, he could get the best education both in India as well as abroad. On 21st July 1913, he joined Columbia University with the help of a Scholarship of eleven and a half-pound money per month given to him by Maharaja of Baroda.
He got his Ph.D. degree in 1917 after clearing his M.A. This research book `National Dividend of India' was accepted by Columbia University. It was appointed as professor in Siderhum college. But this talented man had to bear great humiliation from time to time. He had to sit at the back and was not allowed even to touch the blackboard.
This pained him a lot. He thought that he, who had got so high qualifications is ill-treated, then what will be the condition of uneducated people of his community. Dr. Ambedkar fought for the rights of untouchables. He was impressed by the works of Jyotiba Fule, founder of 'Satyashodak Samaj', which helped him a lot.
He started his fight with the foundation of "Bahiskrit Hitkarini Sabha", the works of which were to form schools for the untouchables and downtrodden people of the society, Under the leadership of Dr. Ambedkar, 6000 lower caste people drank the water of Chabdar pond in Kolaba to get equal rights. Mahatma Gandhi was also agreed with his views.
They both signed an agreement which later came to be known as the 'Poona Act'. Under which, the depressed classes were given up the right for separate electorates. On July 15, 1947, the British Govt. passed the act of Indian independence and on August 15, 1947, India became free.
Dr. Ambedkar was invited to join the cabinet as the Minister of Law. In February 1948, Dr. Ambedkar presented the Draft Constitution before the people of India. Till that time, Dr. Ambedkar has gained a lot of reputation. On 5th of Dec 1956, he completed writing 'Gospel of Buddha'. On 6th Dec. 1956, this great leader of Dalits died. He was not only the writer of the Indian constitution but also a great Social reformer, college-University professor, Barrister, a true champion of human rights, and an angel for poor and the needy people.
The nation's highest civilian award 'Bharat Ratna' was conferred to Dr. Ambedkar posthumously on his 99th birthday in 1990. Every Indian should be proud of this true son of mother India.
