Rabindranath Tagore Essay
Rabindranath Tagore was an Indian poet, philosopher, a great musician, and a great Social reformer. He was given the title `Gurticlev' as Mahatma Gandhi called him the greatest poet of India. Tagore was born in a well-known rich Bengali family on 7th May 1861. His father Maharishi Devendra Nath Tagore was a big Zamindar.
He got his primary education at Kolkata. He learned Sanskrit, Bengla, Grammar, and Astronomy from his father. He started writing poems from a very early age. He went to London also for Studies. Rabindranath Tagore was born with a passion for poetry. He wrote poetry in Bengali and English. At first, nobody paid attention to him. But his well-known poem 'Gitanjali' which is a collection of songs, provided him 'Nobel Prize' in 1913.
Gitanjali is translated into many languages. In 1915, the University of Kolkata awarded him the degree of D.Litt. in 1915, the government conferred on him the title of 'Sir'. Tagore was also a skilled and innovative playwright. His plays represent a large variety of tastes. 'Chirakumar Sobha', 'Goray Glad' and 'Vaikunther Katha' are some Symbolical plays of Tagore. After the first world war, Tagore made a world tour, including America, Europe, China, and everywhere, he got a royal reception.
In 1901, he had started a school at a village, called Bo1pur. It was named 'Shanti Niketan'. In 1912, he changed it to a university. It is called 'Vishwa Bharti'. Students from all over the world come here to study. This great poet, essayist, story writer, novelist, dramatist, great painter, and musician took his last breath on 27th August 1941.
He had faced many family misfortunes. His wife died at an early age. His daughter also died at a very early age. His father died in 1905 and his youngest son died in 1907. This famous personality had a keen interest in political and social reforms also. He gave up his title 'Sir' after the Jallianwalla Bagh tragedy. He was a true son of mother India.
