Sarojini Naidu was a great patriot, politician, orator, and administrator. Her personality was extraordinary. She was a social worker, an ideal housewife, and a great poetess. She was the most famous lady of the 20th Century.
Her birthday is celebrated as 'women's day' every year. This great lady was born on 13th Feb. 1879 in Hyderabad. Her mother, Mrs. Varasundari was a Bengali poetess, and his father, Dr. Aghornath Chattopadhyaya was the founder of Nizam College of Hyderabad and a famous Scientist. Sarojini Naidu had the influence of both of the parents on her personality.
She was a brilliant student from her early childhood. Her parents wanted to make her a mathematician but she was a born poetess. Her parents encouraged her talent. She wrote the play 'Maher Munner' at a very early age. Everybody was impressed by her efforts. At the age of eighteen, she got admitted to King's College of England.
There, she met famous laureates of the time. in England, she met Dr. Govind Naidu from southern India. After finishing her studies at 19, she got married. It was an intercaste marriage. But her parents were broad-minded. So they did not care at all.
Her main contribution was in the field of poetry.
Her first collection of poems was published in 1905 under the title 'Golden Threshold'. Her other collection was 'The Bird of Time', and 'The Broken Wings'. In 1918, 'Feast of Youth' and 'A Treasury of Poems' were published. Her Poetry gave her recognition as 'Bul Bul-e-Hind'. Pt. Jawahar Lai Nehru, Tagore, and Maharshree Arvind were among the admirers of her poetry.
