Cable TV Essay
The cable television took place in Pennsylvania and Oregon in the late 1940s and early 1950s. But in India television came into existence in about the 1970s. At first, its transmission was mainly in black and white. Television became popular in 1982 when Asian Games were held in India.
It then proceeded to install transmitters nationwide rapidly for terrestrial broadcasting. The second revolution came in the early nineties with the broadcast of satellite T.V. by foreign programmers like CNN followed by Star TV and a little later by channels like Zee TV and SUN TV.
The telecast of Hum Log (1984), Ramayan (1987-88), and Mahabharat (1988-89) brought revolutionary changes in people's mentality.
DD responded to the satellite TV invasion by launching an entertainment and commercially driven channel and introducing entertainment programming on its terrestrial network. More and more people set up networks until there was a time in 1995-96 when approximately 60,000 cable operators were existing in the country.
Now there are about 200+ channels, which are shown through the cable connection. There is a lot of variety also. There are religious channels like—Shraddha, Jagran, Aastha, etc., family channels like Star, Zee, Colours, 9X, etc. cartoon channels like Pogo, Cartoon Network News channels like Zee News, Aajtak, India T.V., etc and many more.
Now we can get full entertainment according to our tastes. It is proving a boon for those, who remain lonely at home. Old people, who are unable to go outside, can see their favorite programs or television. It is proving a nice pastime.
