Holi Essay In English
India is famous for its fairs and festivals all over the world. Holi, the festival of colors is also an important festival of Hindus. It falls in the month of 'falgun'. Every person enjoys this festival wholeheartedly.
It is the beginning of the harvest season. The harvest becomes ready for the farmers so they are filled with joy. New ears of corn are roasted in the holy fire of Holi on the night of Holi and then distributed among friends and relatives as Prasad. The main story behind this festival is that Prahlad was a strong devotee of Vishnu.
His father Hirnakashyap hated Vishnu. He did not want that his son should announce the name of Vishnu, so he wanted to kill his own son. He asked his sister Holika to enter the fire with Prahlad. Holika's body was fireproof. As soon as Holika entered the fire, Prahlad came out safe but Holika was burnt to death because Prahlad had the power of devotion of Lord Vishnu.
This festival is the symbol of Bhakti of Prahlad and the victory of good over evil. On Holi night, a huge fire is made, with heaps of wood, dung, and thrones, etc, people gather around it and roast the new harvest.
The next day, after burning Holi, people feel happy and joyous. They make colored water and throw it on passers-by. They put 'Gulal' on each other's faces and embrace each other. Everybody says 'Holi Mubaraq' to his friends or relatives.
Children enjoy this festival a lot. Many types of sweets are made at home. But some uncivilized people make this colorful festival dirty. They throw dirty things on others' faces, which is harmful.
This beautiful festival should be enjoyed in a civilized manner. It brings joy and happiness. Always wish good luck to each other. Never mar it with evil-doings.
