Teachers Day Essay
Teachers Day is said to be a national function, as it is celebrated only in India on 5th September. It is the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, one of our former presidents.
Dr. Radhakrishnan was an ideal teacher, an example of honesty, impartiality, and devotion, as he himself said, teaching is its own reward. Every school celebrates this festival in different ways. Some honor their teachers by giving awards, some schools organize fete and in many schools, students play the role of teachers.
Students give flowers, cards, and gifts to their favorite teachers. But the main idea is to draw the attention of society towards the purity of this profession. No other profession is considered so honorable and dignified, as of a teacher. The place of a teacher is above the parents.
The teacher is the maker of society. on this day, about a hundred teachers, selected from primary, upper primary, secondary schools, oriental schools, and colleges are invited by the President of India to honor them with certificates and some cash prizes.
This award is called the 'National Award for Teachers'. Selection for these awards is made on the basis of many considerations, such as their personal character and conduct, their professional competence, sociability, their contributions to the profession as a writer or as a researcher in Education.
So, it is not easy to get a national award. State awards and awards by the National foundation are also presented to worthy teachers. In many districts, district-level awards are also given to the ideal teachers, to encourage the youngsters to come in this field. Besides all these dignities of a teacher, some teachers are exploiting this noble profession.
They have no interest in the welfare of their disciples. It is really shocking. But the reputation of this profession cannot be lessened by some selfish teachers. We have the gem of teachers like Dr. Radhakrishnan to set an example before society.
